Leukotrienes in the atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases — a systematic review

Introduction: The role of inflammation in the pathogenesis atherosclerotic diseases is strongly suggested. There are multiple studies indicating possibility a pathophysiological connection between changes and leukotrienes (LTs) — products arachidonic acid metabolism. goal this systematic review, performed line with PRISMA statement, was to investigate potential LTs pathophysiology cardiovascular (CVD). Material methods: MEDLINE, EMBASE, Cochrane Database Systematic Reviews were searched identify potentially eligible studies. Publications that contained information on any type identified blood or urine included review. A database search 2082 records. Reliable identification patients CVD used 30 publications. Results: Stable acute forms coronary artery disease characterized by overproduction different types LTs. level LTB4 LTC4 elevated cerebral ischemia. Patients chronic peripheral have levels LTE4 urine. Conclusions: findings review show there clear tendency indicate association increased production This dependency detailed characteristic remains unclear question impact clinical manifestations still open.
